I think I achieved my goal. My goal was to participate well in Exhibition and I am participating well in Exhibition

This week I am most proud of:

Meeting my mentor the first time and explaining what we did.

Next week my goal is:

To contact with some experts about our topic (gender inequality) if we are able to do that.

Blob Tree

Can you see the two black blobs in the picture?
I think that will be me and Yeeun. Why? I'll tell you.

http://www.pipwilson.com/p/blob-tree.html
I think we have done well until now and we are supporting each other to make us perfect.
As you see in the picture, the black blobs are trying to reach the top with helping each other. So I want us to help each other to get to the top. We had done everything together like the two black blobs. We chose our topic together, key concepts together, lines of inquiry together and all the other things.
My final goal is to be the blob who is standing at the top smiling. But for now, I want us to be the blobs putting their arms on each other's shoulders.

When will we reach our goal?

P. S. And what is a blob anyway?

Reflection #2

 'Ta-da-da-da....
Don't ask me why I am screaming. Don't ask me why I am silent.'

This is what really happened in class today.
Digital image. Ci-group. N.p., n.d. Web. 27 April. 2016.

Today, my teammate Yeeun and I were in a serious situation. We were thinking of changing our topic. I thought it was too late to change our topic and we had already done some work based on the other topic. But we really wanted to change our topic. So, we talked with Mrs. Archie who was now our homeroom teacher, (hip hip hurray!) the reasons for changing the topic. We had discussions and  Mrs. Archie had a short discussion with Mr. Cavanagh. I was getting worried and worried. To me, I wanted to do like the two groups beside me. And finally, we had a decision that we will change the topic.
After that, we were very tired catching up. But fortunately, we were able to catch up and now, we have our key concepts, central idea and lines of inquiry.

Reflection

Everybody freeze! Just for now can you stop what you are doing and listen to me? I have a very important thing to share with all of you. Now come closer. You will need to be very quiet.

As you know, my exhibition partner is Yeeun and today, we chose our topic! We were very serious when choosing it. We had to think of the field trip, time etc. And TA-DA!! At last, we came with an topic. Racial Discrimination. It was hard choosing the topic. But we had fun. We laughed and laughed and laughed while the other teams were serious and serious and serious. We were having so much fun that we couldn't finish the questions. I think we should have been more serious too. (like the other teams.)

Anyway, this was our team today. Don't leave and just tell me. What was your day like?

Teammates!

(Calming down)
Okay! Does any one know why I am so excited?
I am so excited because I know I had solved the 'one of the biggest question' about PYPX. I know you already know what is the topic based on my writing above. For those of you who are not sure what's today's topic, here is the topic: Teammates!

Digital image. Teammate Stock. N.p., n.d. Web. 25 April. 2016.

Today at exhibition class, there was an announcement about what everyone was waiting for. It was about the teammates. I was very eager to know my exhibition group but Mr. C was keep telling us other informations. And finally I learned who I was going to work with. My partner was Yeeun! I was thrilled but also worried if I could do well. After the teammates were announced, we had to write the central agreement for out team but then, I noticed that Yeeun didn't come to school so I had to do it alone. Anyway, I worked with Ms. Klein who was really helpful. I finished half of all the work. It was a hard work. Then I thought 'If I can't do well today, let's do a good job tomorrow. Or maybe, the whole exhibition.'

6 Transdisciplinary Themes

What is your favourite transdisciplinary themes? That is the topic for today's blog.
There are 6 transdisciplinary themes in the whole Junior school:

How the World Works - Science
Sharing the Planet - Environment
How we Organize Ourselves - Society
Who We Are - Self
How We Express Ourselves - Art
Where We Are in Place and Time - History

My favourite theme is How We Express Ourselves. This year,
in How we express ourselves, we studied about child labor and gender inequality, equality etc and it was so fun and cool to learn. I was very interested in those things and researching about them were  very enjoyable. I wish I could have a chance to research and learn more about the theme, How we express ourselves in Exhibition.

Nature is Speaking

Have you heard of videos called 'Nature is Speaking?' Well, today's topic is one of the video in Nature is Speaking.

I watched a video called 'Ice'. It was telling about the global warming affecting the Ice. The video was in the perspective of Ice. I felt like the Ice was screaming to me to help them. I really thought humans were ignoring the Global Warming when I heard the sentence ' It have been decades when you noticed.'
I want to show this to my family so they could show to someone else and they could share again and again. Someone who watched the video might be inspired and start to take an action.
I wonder who made this video and why.

If you are wondering right now what video I watched, here is the website!

Bilingualism

Bilingualism. Is there are a such a word than that? Yeah there is a such a word like this.
It means that you are able to speak two languages. For example, I am bilingual because I can speak Korean and English well. Didn't you notice something? I am giving you a clue for today's topic. Yes. You are right. Today's topic is Bilingualism.

But did you know that? There are levels in bilingualism. The first is semi-bilingual. It means that you are not good at both languages (two). Second is passive bilingual. It means that you are good at one language but not the other language. The third is compound/dominant bilingual. It means that you can speak both languages but one is better than the other. Most of the time, the 'one' language we are good at is our mother tongue language. Fourth is co-ordinate bilingual. Fifth is balanced bilingual. And the last one is ambi-bilingual/equilingual.

Now, I think I am compound/dominant bilingual because I can speak both languages well but I am more comfortable chatting or talking in Korean. I my goal is to become equilingual.

Taking Action

Today, I have a question for you. Have you ever took an action? Well I have. Still doing that same action when it started 5 years ago.

When I was in Seoul, I got an letter from the charity 'Good Neighbors'. The letter was about donating money with an CD in it. Of course I was curious and started to watch the video. I was sad and frustrated while watching the video. Kids who were same as my age but were working hard to earn few money, kids younger than me who were starving and getting sick. After watching the video, I begged and begged my parents to help those children by donating. My parents said they were ok with the helping idea. From that day, my sister and I kept donating. A year passed, and another and another. Now, I have two children who I am donating to.

This is the one action I did. There are more but this blog isn't enough to tell you all.
What about you donating like me? You get to know about the children outside your country and get to know how to share things. But remember, money isn't the only thing you could donate and take action with.

Over night Experience

Today, I have a very special blogging task. It is about our...... Over night Experience!
If I talk every thing to you, it will be more than 10 pages so I will just tell you the most memorable moments; communication game and 'Catch it if you can'

First, the communication game. The communication game was like a telephone game. 7 of my friends were volunteers. They were ask to sing a song outside while Mrs. Archie told a statement to us. The statement was " I am in the hotel room 701. I want to order some food. I want to order chocolate milkshake, steak cooked medium and a salad with out tomato with garlic mashed potato."
And the next person had to memorize that statement and pass it to the next person. But some how, the last person said "They went to the restaurant to get charlic (?)" I don't what happened but some how the statement was completely changing.
Second, the 'Catch it if you can' game was a team game. The purpose of this game was to launch using the launcher and put as many pingpong balls as you can into the catcher in 1 minutes. But, to get points, the pingpong ball had to fly and land on the catcher not rolling. Our team's catcher was perfect but the launcher was horrible. When it was our turn to launch the pingpong balls, all of our pingpong balls all went into the catcher but none of them flew. Isn't it funny? But you don't know the surprise yet. The surprise is that...... our team won with another group!

I think this over night experience was helpful to me and it will be very helpful to exhibition. I really liked the way how we learned how to solve problems etc. Now, I am ready for the PYP Exhibition.

Day #2 of Exhibition

Digital image. SoftPMO. N.P., N.D. Web. 12 April 2016

Wow! It is the second day of the PYPX. Today, we did not do something related to PYPX but I have one of the attitudes to write about. Commitment. Will the attitude commitment be helpful and be important to PYPX? I agree.

For me, I don't really like people who tries a few times and gives up. Now, the definition of commitment is trying hard, not giving up on a hard problem and concentrating on their work. It is the opposite from the 'people who I hate'.
In exhibition, commitment will be helpful to us when we face a problem or having a hard tasks. We could concentrate and focus when we have a commitment to what we are doing. For these reasons, I think commitment will be very helpful to our exhibition.

Day #1 of PYP Exhibition

At last, it is the first day if Exhibition! I don't know if I need to say 'Yay!' or 'No' But I know it is going to be fun.

Today, we didn't do many things but learned about blogging during exhibition and it was like a diary where we record every day what we did. In exhibition, we need to write what we did every day and including a media.
And at another class we learned about 'Understanding PYPX' and we got huge amounts of paper and sorted them out. Because of these learnings, I think I got my question answered and knew a bit more about the exhibition.
Lastly, we got our own booklet which is full of informations about exhibition. I want to take a look at that booklet later on.

PYP Exibition

  • What excites you about the PYPX? - I am excited about researching about my topic and doing a group project. Also how me and our group will be collaborating.
  •  What worries you about the PYPX? - My worries are the teammates who are not paying attention and who are playing as if it is not their work.
  • What do you need to know about the PYPX? - I think I need to know how the exhibition goes and about my teammates.
  • What is you stance or opinion on the PYPX? - I think exhibition is going to be extremely great but, also extremely worried. It will also be nervous kind of because of the teammates. But I think it is a great learning group project.

Mind map of Slavery

To pick a topic for my mind map, I drew another mind map of words that relates to our unit and the word 'slavery' had many connections. I was curious why this word had so many connections and wanted to try making a mind map with it. So here is my mind map:

If you look carefully, this mind map is showing the history in United States about slavery. While I was researching and making my mind map, I could learn more knowledge about the slavery history in United States.
